For ease of comparison with Haes and Harding (1997), records are shown as: pre-1970, 1970-1999 and as 2000 (onwards). The eventual aim is to update all maps as completely as possible with records for 2001 onwards, to show the status of Sussex orthopteroids in the first decade of the new millennium. Records shown for boundary squares may pertain to neighbouring counties.

This Nationally Scarce species currently appears to be restricted in Sussex to mature chalk downland west of the Arun. It usually occurs close to woodland. Many of its sites are in effect woodland clearings or open woodland rides, where it occurs together with Woodland grasshopper. There is one specimen in BM(NH) collected by David Ragge, labelled 'Ashdown Forest' and there is an old record from East Grinstead. Recent searches in Ashdown Forest have not been successful. There is also an unconfirmed record from Rye Harbour.
